If you are wondering how to improve your Instagram engagement as part of your small business marketing strategy, the first thing you need to know is that it's all about Reels Reels Reels! Static posts are out. If you are going to post static images, do it in the form of a carousel, which is a series of images in one post.
Quality Over Quantity
Since I spend a fair amount of time on social media and have tried to reinvigorate my own Lora Bloom Instagram profile, I pay close attention to what is impactful. If you go to my profile, you'd see that I have under 1k followers. While I try to not let this get to my head, I have to remember it's about quality not quantity. Some might say, "Why should I take advice from her?" Well, you are right. I don't have a massive following. But, I consistently have increasing engagement, month over month, on my professional dashboard. I monitor what types of content receive the best engagement and try to lean into that more.
Loyal Followers Convert to Clients
I pay close attention to whom engages with my posts too. My most loyal followers are my clients. I'm creating content for them and someone they likely know. Social media is about creating value and connection. Just like a friendship, some develop over time. When I become someone's friend, it's because over time I've developed a level of trust, value, and loyalty to that person. I've learned enough about them to open up more and they do the same. Sometimes that relationship happens fast and sometimes slow. What matters is the quality and trust developed within that time.
It's In The Details
A lot of the errors I see on other Instagram Reels are small details. Cropping that's slightly off, no hook or a video that loses interest quickly. I also see too much focus on the product and not enough on the value of the company or story. Being camera-shy can be a challenge, but there's ways to create presence without actually talking into the camera lens.
