How often do you rearrange the furniture in your living room or bedroom? I've lived in my home for 10 years and rearranged the furniture many times. I get tired of the same ol' flow and look. Every couple of years, I get the inspiration to try something new.
Many people can relate to this. Whether it's changing the color of towels in the bathroom or reorganizing the closet, from time to time we need a change or see an improvement that could be made.
Your brand shouldn't be any different. I've changed my brand a few times over the last decade. Each time, I was bored and wanted a refresh. Each time, I felt a little better defined by my brand and demonstrated in on who and what my business goals really were.
Logos for the Visually Impaired
My last redesign of Lora Bloom was out of necessity. Initially established as an online floral marketplace, I could no longer use the signature messenger bird logo a web designer had built years ago. Always researching logo and branding trends, I actually stumbled on logo standards for the visually impaired. I built my logo with the visually impaired in mind. While this may not have been the most creative logo, I love its efforts to offer inclusion for all.

(The evolution of the Lora Bloom logo over the years. I love seeing the timeline!)
Here are some quick tips to help the visually impaired read your logo better:
- Sharp contrasts of light and dark shades are better seen than soft muted pastels.
- Prime colors are easier to see, like red, blue, green, and yellow. A perfect example is why Google's logo is so basic. Many major brands have very simple logos.
- Typography that is more simple and print-based helps too. More thin or narrow fonts, like cursive are difficult to read.
- Avoid complex imagery or graphics. It's not easy to read.
I actually carried several of these same features into my newest logo. Inclusion for all is important within my business mission.
Defining the Lora Bloom Brand Perspective
After spending several weeks listening to experienced professionals in web and brand design across platforms like Instagram and TikTok, I began to shape my own viewpoint. A recurring perspective I heard was that brand logos should solely reflect what the customer wants. This idea gave me pause. While customer appeal is essential, I believe a strong brand should be the result of a thoughtful balance between the business’s identity and the needs of its audience.
Key Principles for Developing a Brand:
- Establish a distinct identity – Your brand should be instantly recognizable and unique.
-
Represent the full story – A brand should reflect the business owner, the mission, the story, the team, and the customers it aims to attract.
-
Be budget-conscious – Invest in what’s essential for your brand, without overspending unnecessarily.
-
Ensure logo versatility – A logo should work across multiple formats and applications.
-
Keep it simple – Avoid unnecessary complexity for better recognition and scalability.
-
Include transparent files – Always have a logo version with a transparent background for flexible use.
-
Consider accessibility – Design with the visually impaired in mind for inclusivity.
-
Seek feedback – Have trusted friends or colleagues review logo variations before making your final choice.
-
Be proud of your brand – If you’re not confident and enthusiastic about your brand, it will be harder to market and sell it effectively.
The "Branding Starter Kit" – Why It Matters
If you feel uninspired by your current logo, avoid using it, or hesitate to hand out a business card with your brand displayed, it may be time for a refresh.
Think of it like having a professional write your résumé. I once hired a career counselor to do just that, and it was some of the best money I ever spent. She skillfully transformed my job history into a compelling narrative, highlighting strengths I didn’t even realize I had. The final product was something I was proud to put my name on—and my confidence soared.
A well-designed logo can have the same impact on your business. When your brand identity is cohesive, visually appealing, and aligned with your values, it becomes a powerful representation of your professionalism. It not only elevates your business’s image but also gives you the confidence to present it proudly in every interaction.
